Issho mochi - 一升餅

Nemrégiben egy újabb japán tradíciónak lehettem részese, aminek a neve a címben is szerepel. Itt rengeteg ünnep és esemény kötődik a gyerekek egészséges felnövéséhez. Ezek közül az egyik korai lépés (az Okuizome után) az "Issho mochi". Ezt figyelhettem meg testközelből a minap...

I had the chance to take part in another Japanese tradition the other day, called... Well, it's name is in the title of this post. The Japanese have a lot of events and festivals / celebrations directly connected to the health and well-being of children. One of them, coming in the early stages of a child's life (a bit after Okuizome), is "Issho mochi"...

先日また日本の昔からの習慣の1つに参加できました。
タイトルの一生餅にね。
日本では、何か子供の健康と無事な育ちについて色んなお祭りやイベントがあるんだね。
一生餅も（お食い初めと一緒に）その初期段階の1つなんだね...

Ezt is szűk családi körben ünneplik a japánok. Általában a kisbaba 1 éves szülinapján, vagy némileg utána. Mivel itt a család elég elfoglalt volt a szülinap környékén (azaz tavaly év végén, és elsősorban miattam), ezért csak idén januárban került rá sor. Ezidő alatt a baba legalább tudott még erősödni pár hónapot, amire szüksége is volt az eredményes részvételhez. :D

It's also celebrated only with the closest family members, usually on the child's first birthday, or somewhat later. Since in our case, the family was quite busy around the birthday itself (meaning the end of last year, and very much because of me), so it got moved to January in the end. At least it gave some more time to the baby to gain some more strength, which is vital in succeeding in this event. :D

これも、家族でお祝いするね。

タイミングは普段、赤ちゃんの1歳の誕生日か、その後2-3ヶ月以内だね。

今回は、赤ちゃんの誕生日の辺りに（去年の終わりごろ、そして結構主に私のせいで）忙しかったので、1月にリスケされた。

せめて、そのおかげで赤ちゃんがその分もちょっと体力を付けたね。

このイベントで「成功」するために大事な体力をね。 :D

Tudniillik az esemény kb. úgy néz ki, hogy a gyerek hátára adnak egy kb. 2 kilós mochi-t (azt a ragadós rizslabdát, amitől az öregek mindig megfulladnak Újévkor), és azt kell cipelnie pár percig, miközben a család többi tagja jót nevet rajta. :D És hát emiatt sokat számít az a plusz pár hónap fejlődés, mivel sokan vannak akik meg se bírnak moccanni vele. Ezúttal viszont nem volt ilyen gond, a gyerkőc szépen eltipegett a szobában egy pár percet a kis puttonyával. (A kisbabás képet amúgy a netről loptam.)

The whole thing is a very simple ritual: the parents put a roughly 2-kg piece of mochi (that sticky riceball that makes old people choke around New Year's) onto the baby's back, and he has to carry it around for a few minutes, while everyone in the family has a good laugh about the scene. :D That's where those plus few months give a crucial edge to the kids. Most of them can't even stand up straight with this extra weight. But this time, there was no such problem, he managed to stagger around the room for a few minutes with his heavy package. なぜなら、赤ちゃんの背中に2キロぐらいの餅を付けて、そのままでちょっと頑張って歩いてみるイベントでしょう。

家族の皆が超笑いながら… :D

立つことさえできない子もいるし、そのプラス数ヶ月の成長は大事！

まぁ、今回は結局そんな問題がなかったけどね。

赤ちゃんがよく頑張って大体ちゃんと歩けたからね。

És hogy mire jó ez az egész? Az a két kiló kaja a gyerek hátán a család azon kívánságát szimbolizálja, hogy a picinek élete hátralevő (lehetőleg meglehetősen hosszú) részében sose kelljen éheznie, mindig legyen elég kajája. Erre utal az "issho" szó is, ami kb. azt jelenti, hogy "egész élet". (Én amúgy mindig nagyon meg tudok hatódni ezektől a tradíciókban rejtőző metaforáktól.) Mondjuk ennek ellenére neki pont nem adnak ebből a mochiból (gondolom még nem igazán tudna megbirkózni vele), hanem a család többi tagja fogyasztja el, miután jól kifárasztották vele a gyereket. :D

Of course, you might ask what's all the fuss about, right? Well, putting 2 kg-s of food onto the baby's back tries to convey the wish of the whole family, that the kid would never be hungry, would always have enough to eat for the rest of his or her (hopefully very long) life. That's what the word "issho" means: "one's whole life". (As a side note, I'm always deeply moved by the metaphors hiding in old traditions like this.) By the way, in contrast to this wish, the babies don't get to eat any of this mochi (I guess they couldn't digest it too well), so it's consumed by the rest of the family after the laughing dies down a bit. :D

で、このイベントの目的は、中々可愛いなぁと思ってるよ。

赤ちゃんの背中に付けた餅に、家族の「赤ちゃんがこの（出来るだけ長い）一生で食べ物に困らないように」と言う願いが入ってるんだね！

こう言うことに入ってる皆の気持ちが「何て素敵だなぁ」と思っていつも感動しちゃうよ。

…と言ったら、家族がこの餅を後で全部食べるんだ！

気持ちの正反対で、赤ちゃんの文を残さずにね。 :D

（まぁ、考えてみれば、確かに恐らく消化できないけどね…）
